“He greeted Death as an old friend…”

Day 10: Horcruxes or Hallows?

I’ll let J K Rowling answer this for me (sort of):

Hehe... I never thought I'd love this woman more, but I do!

I don’t want horcruxes.
So my answer is Hallows.
It makes sense.
Why would I kill several people and cut my soul into pieces just so I can achieve immortality?

I’d rather be invisible when I want to be, use the Elder Wand to cast all my spells (a normal wand would do too, but Elder Wand is just extra assurance that I’m not going to fail at the whole magic and spells and curses thing) and maybe, talk to a deceased loved one every once in a while.

Technically, right now I don’t have any use for the Resurrection Stone.
Nor do I think I will be having duels with any wizards or witches (I’m more of a no-confrontation-until-absolutely-necessary kinda girl… I’m all for intense negotiations to sort out problems though) so I think only the Invisibility Cloak is going to be of any actual use to me…
(And I sure as hell won’t be visiting the library. Hehehe…)

Truth is,you don’t need to give me any of these Hallows or superior powers over other witches and wizards- I don’t even want immortality- just give me an ordinary wand and a Hogwarts acceptance letter, and maybe an owl for a pet, and I’ll live happily ever after.

“Can you possibly imagine a better way to serve detention?”

Day 9: Who’s your least favourite male character and why?

He is so ridiculous I don’t even know what to write in this post.
He is definitely my least favourite.
I remember hating Fenrir Greyback a lot when I first read the books but now I don’t remember much about him, and there isn’t much to go on anyway.

I think Gilderoy Lockhart is the only character in the books who is as ridiculous as (if not more than) his AVPM counterpart.

Yes well... Did I say how much I love this musical?

And what makes me sad is that he was a Ravenclaw.
Of course I know that all Ravenclaws aren’t awesome and smart and brilliant, but it really saddens me to see that this idiot belonged to my house.

Yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking! ‘It’s all right for him, he’s an internationally famous wizard already!’ But when I was twelve, I was just as much of a nobody as you are now. In fact, I’d say I was even more of a nobody! I mean, a few people have heard of you, haven’t they? All that business with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!” He glanced at the lightning scar on Harry’s forehead. “I know, I know — it’s not quite as good as winningWitch Weekly’s Most-Charming-Smile Award five times in a row, as I have — but it’s a start, Harry, it’s a start.

Celebrity is as celebrity does

Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. But I don’t talk about that; I didn’t get rid of the Banden Banshee by smiling at him.

Remember this?

1. What is Gilderoy Lockhart’s favourite colour?
2. What is Gilderoy Lockhart’s secret ambition?
3. What, in you opinion, is Gilderoy Lockhart’s greatest achievement to date?
On and on it went, over three sides of paper, right down to:
54. When is Gilderoy Lockhart’s birthday, and what would his ideal gift be?

Sadly, we know the answers to some, if not all, of these questions.

My dear boy, do use your common sense! My books wouldn’t have sold have as well if people didn’t think I did all those things…

Why are these questions so bloody difficult!?!?

Day 8: What’s your favourite lesson from the series?

The Harry Potter series has 7 books, 8 movies, several more smaller books, an upcoming spin-off, a musical parody.
It has one of the largest fandoms in the world and it has defined an entire generation. It has become a way of life for more people than you and I can imagine.
Some of them started reading the series as kids and grew up reading them. I’m one of them.
Harry Potter has given us life lessons, taught us values- it has shaped our lives. Most of us don’t remember our lives from before Harry Potter.
J K Rowling has quite literally made me the person I am today- or at least laid the foundation.
I think it’d be safe to say that it is impossible to write in about 250 to 500 words about our one favourite lesson from Harry Potter.

A couple of months ago, I got a chance to talk about Harry Potter for 3 minutes. It wasn’t a prepared speech. I just had to go up there and talk.
And I did.
I don’t remember much of what I said (you could say I was in a bit of a trance) but most people who were there said I spoke longer than 3 minutes.
And here’s the surprising part: at the end of it, I wasn’t happy with myself. I hadn’t done it justice.
I’ll blog about Harry Potter for 30 days now (hopefully)- and that’s not counting all my previous random posts about Harry Potter and my future posts- and I’ll feel like I’ve not done it justice.

Today when I read the prompt, it’s the same feeling I got, that no matter what or how much I wrote I wouldn’t do it justice; which is why I’m posting this later than usual- I didn’t know where to begin.
Now, a couple of hours to midnight I decided to sit down and write whatever I was thinking of. Thus this rambling session happened.

Harry Potter has taught me that your loved ones are all you have in the end.
Be it friends or family.
Harry Potter has taught me that you have to not be selfish sometimes and do certain things for the greater good.
It has taught me how crucial sacrifice is.
Harry Potter has taught me that only you can save yourself in the end.

Harry Potter has taught me to be empathetic, to be kind to others, to treat everyone with respect, to be less prejudiced, more tolerant and accepting.

Harry Potter continues to teach me lots of things lots of times.
I simply cannot write one post about it.
Learning from Harry Potter is a life long process and I’ll continue to learn.

Wit Beyond Measure Is Man’s Greatest Treasure

I don’t even know if I should answer today’s question since everyone who reads my blog already knows the answer.
But since some of you don’t know the question and because I’ve decided to do this challenge and well, I’d love to answer this question, here we go!

Day 6: Which house would you want to be in?

Don’t you mean: Which house are you in?

I’ll let my T-shirt do the talking here (if my Username hasn’t already answered for you) :

Yes, I’m a proud Ravenclaw, I was sorted that way.

What I really like about Ravenclaw (or all the houses really, with their own traits) is how it’s not about whether you’re intelligent or smart or wise, but about what you value the most.
So if you value knowledge and wisdom over everything else, then you have the qualities of a Ravenclaw.

You can notice that in the Ravenclaw part in the Sorting Hat song…

“Or yet in wise, old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning
Will always find their kind”

If you’ve a ready mind

If you’re actually willing to learn.

I have always been a bit greedy when it comes to knowledge.
Even from a young age, I read everything I could get my hands on, always wanted to gain more knowledge, and one of my legit concerns is that I’m going to die without learning half the things I wish to learn.

Reading Wikipedia articles and watching TED talks is my idea of fun.
I learn new languages because I like to.

I make lists of things I need to read more about and they include everything from Artificial Intelligence, Cryptology, Metaphysics to Art History and Fashion History.

Yeah, in case you didn’t notice, I’m a bit of a nerd.
The prospect of learning something new excites me!!

(That is not to say I don’t get bored sitting in lectures in college, but well that’s a whole different story)

I had once reblogged this post about Ravenclaw which very nicely sums up all the nuances of my house.

The other day I found this brilliant Tumblr post:

To end the post, I’d like to add something Luna once said (and reading it was one of my proudest moments as a Ravenclaw because ‘OMR! Such smarts!! Much wisdom!!’)…

“Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?”

“…I think the answer is that a circle has no beginning.”
“Well reasoned.”

His Godfather, that’s who!

Day 5 Who’s your favourite male character and why?

Sirius Black

Well, who doesn’t love him?

If I had to be one Marauder, I’d be Padfoot.

There’s just no end to the list of reasons why I love this guy.

We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.

The world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters.

He’s not a child!” said Sirius impatiently.

“He’s not an adult either!” said Mrs. Weasley, the color rising in her cheeks. “He’s not James, Sirius!”

“I’m perfectly clear who he is, thanks, Molly,” said Sirius coldly.

“I’m not sure you are!” said Mrs. Weasley. “Sometimes, the way you talk about him, it’s as though you think you’ve got your best friend back!

This one though 😥 😥

The ones who love us never really leave us, you can always find them in here

Daily dose of feels:

I’m sorry… I’m so, so sorry.

Have these (I promise they’re good) :

And while we’re on the topic of Sirius Black, you absolutely must listen to this Baby Got Back parody about Sirius Black!!

Give her hell from us, Peeves!

Today’s question for the Harry Potter Tumblr Challenge was the easiest to answer in the sense that I did not have to think even for half a second about what my answer was going to be.

Day 4: Who’s your least favourite female character and why?

Yes, just like almost every Potterhead ever, my most hated and least favourite character is Umbitch.

(Notice how I didn’t say “female character”. Notice how I also didn’t say “one of”.
I hate Umbridge the most. Period.)

This Umbridge:

Not this one:

(I actually love this one to death, but that’s a story for Day 29! Long wait, I know, but wait for it!)

Why do I hate Umbridge?

Let me see…
Did you know that ” Dolores” is actually “pain” in Spanish? Yes. Now you do.

Sirius once said that Remus can’t find a job because of Umbridge’s anti-werewolf laws.

“…she drafted an anti-werewolf legislation two years ago that makes it almost impossible for him to get a job.”
Nobody messes with my Marauders! Nobody!!

She was a racist, bigoted person who constantly manipulated and lied to people.
She had even lied about her family, claiming that she was a pure-blood rather than a half-blood.

She got some weird, sadistic pleasure from torturing people and making their lives hell.

What she did to Trelawney is an example of this.

Obviously, we have several examples of her torturing students as well.

She has sociopathic or even psychopathic tendencies.

This is the woman who, due to her wicked nature actually developed an “affinity” for a Horcrux and instead of having a negative effect on her- like it did to the Trio- it actually strengthened her!

The worst part is, she wasn’t even a Death Eater! Like can you believe that?
Our least favourite character in the entire series is not Voldemort or even one of his followers but this vile woman!!

Actually wait, that’s not even the worst part.
The real worst part is that she lives.
This woman, who bullied students, blackmailed them, abused power, had moral values smaller than an atom is still alive and innocent and good people had to die.

(I was going to write “good people like…” but didn’t because we’re not yet over any of the deaths and nobody needs reminding anyway)

The world really is unfair.
Even the magical world created by J K Rowling.

Bellatrix Lestrange is dead though.
That’s some relief.
That bitch got owned!

The book is ALWAYS better than the movie.

After talking about my favourite movies yesterday, I am supposed to talk about the things that annoyed me in the movies.
And just like every Potterhead who has read the books, I have lots of complaints.

Day 3: Is there anything in the film adaptations that annoyed you?

There are two types of things that annoy me about the movies.

One type is that they haven’t included some characters and plot points as part of the movies’ stories.
But this is kind of the less annoying part because the movies are only 2 hours and the books are huge, so yes the directors need to cut out certain amazing parts from the books while making the movies.
But I feel sad nonetheless for the following things:

They’ve left out characters like Charlie Weasley and Winky and Peeves and Teddy!!!!
They’ve left out Hermione’s S.P.E.W.
They’ve left out some extremely funny scenes among the Trio or with Fred and George or other characters. Those scenes needed to be in the movies!!!
Harry’s Sass!! I mean, come on!
Of course they’ve also left out several back stories of characters (especially the Marauders).

Then there’s the second kind of things that annoy me.
This is the kind where they have the characters, they have the settings but for some inexplicable reason, they decide to change the thing that actually was or actually happened to something extremely ridiculous or nonsensical.

Movie Ginny vs. Book Ginny

Yes!! I know right?!?
Everybody is pissed about this.
I just read my friend Leanna’s post. Check it out- it’s awesome. It says everything I feel about the characters!

Voldemort’s Death

He is supposed to die like a human.
He is supposed to fall to the ground and stop breathing and lie there dead.
He is not supposed to disintegrate like he did in the movies.
That is effing stupid!
It portrayed Voldemort as something more than a human. Which he wasn’t. He was simply a human who did evil things. That is the whole point!!

Padma Patil’s and Parvati Patil’s dresses at the Yule Ball

Not enough people seem to be bothered about it. But I am.
Like Tanvi said, “I understand that they have shown the diversity at Hogwarts and I appreciate that” but really???

They could’ve worn this for diversity:
Or this:

Or even this:

The point I’m trying to make is, they could’ve worn literally anything but this:

The colors are gaudy, the design of the dress is so bad, and the clothes don’t even fit them well.
The jewellery doesn’t go with the dress either!
It just annoys me so much!!

I suppose the only thing I can say in conclusion is that, sure, the movies could’ve been better.. But they could’ve also been worst.
They could’ve been Percy Jackson movies.
I’m grateful they’re not.

This could’ve been JKR:

His sass though! 😀
